(1993, Razor And Tie)
A B O U T I T
A collaborative endeavor that was a natural 'course of action' between continuing friendships and an assortment of 'MSB reunion' concerts and studio projects, it was shortly after one of the 'final' MSB 'goodbye' concerts that found Michael Stanley and Jonah Koslen once again bringing up a subject they'd discussed for quite some time...The Ghost Poets was brought to life late in 1992, as a result, a name Stanley and Koslen derived from a Bob Dylan quote.
Only months, it seemed, after the 1992 release of the MSB compilation CD, "Right Back At Ya", and subsequent re-issue of The Michael Stanley Band catalog by Razor & Tie Records (headed by long-time MSB fan, Cliff Chenfield), something NEW had arrived on the scene: loyal MSB fans were ecstatic, and new fans were won, via the eponymous release by The Ghost Poets...
New material was created, a new---yet hauntingly familiar---'sound' resulted, playing off the stellar talents of Bob Pelander, Tommy Dobeck, Stanley, Koslen, and a new face/vocalist, Jennifer Lee, who had contributed to many of the 'post' MSB stage and studio performances. Completing the roster were veteran bandmates, Sasha, Rodney Psyka and more...
With something 'old' (Bob Pelander's "Why Should Love Be This Way", still a concert mainstay), something 'familiar' (covers of Jesse Winchester's "Darkness, Darkness", Reggie Calloway's "Casanova"), and a healthy dose of 'new'--upbeat "Oh Jessi", growling rocker "Liars' Moon", tender ballads "Somewhere Over Paris" and "Everything"--the release featured the 'shared' vocals that made many Stanley/MSB releases so popular, with Michael, Jonah Koslen and Jennifer Lee putting their stamp on cuts throughout...
The Ghost Poets continued to perform in the Northern Ohio area for a little over a year after the release, when a decision was made to disband the effort, and move on...
